The Housing Opportunities and Market Experience (HOME) report was created to monitor consumer sentiment about the housing market. It covers core topics that will be tracked on a monthly basis such as views on housing as a good financial investment, whether homeownership is part of the American Dream, if now is a good time to buy or sell a home and perception of home price changes.
- Respondent awareness of low downpayment mortgage options was minimal across all income and education brackets.
- 37% of those 34 years or younger believe they need more than 20% for a downpayment, and only 13% that believe you need 5% or less.
- Those 65 and over were more likely at 33% to help others with a downpayment.
- Those 34 and under were the largest group to receive downpayment assistance from a parent or relative, at 34%.
This HOME survey will be released on a quarterly basis. The remaining release dates in 2016 will be:
- December 14, 2016
