We are known as “The City Without Limits”. Owasso is a northern suburb of Tulsa located in Rogers and Tulsa counties. Owasso has a council-manager form of government whose focus is on maintaining a small town feel with the realities of a growing city.
Owasso became a bedroom community in the 1950s for Tulsa, which was only 12 miles away. As Tulsa expanded, so did industry around Owasso, stimulating further growth. Industrial development proceeded through the 1980s and 1990s. Factories included American Airlines, with nine thousand employees, Nordam Group, with seventeen hundred, and Whirlpool, with twelve hundred and MCI WorldCom with twenty-two hundred.
We strive to be a fully-integrated community with a variety of opportunities and programs designed to keep the citizens active and happy. For those of retirement age, Owasso has created the Golden Agers Adult Program that makes encourages fellowship through dancing, classes, dining and game nights. Owasso builds civic pride through the City Volunteer Program which matches qualified individuals and groups to meet the needs of our town and its citizens.
For young families, there are plenty of activities to keep the children busy and happy. We have lots of parks to explore, tennis and golf courses to have fun and meet new people, as well as bowling and more. You’ll always find something to do here in Owasso.
Keeping pace with the digital age, Owasso has introduced the Nextdoor program. This program allows its citizens to have a free private social network that allows residents to talk online and make life better for their neighbors. Using Nextdoor program, neighbors are able to look out for one another, provide services to each other, quickly get the word out during emergencies and best of all finally learn the first names of that family down the road. Owasso has high hopes that through their community efforts both on- and offline that they will build stronger and safer neighborhoods.
